The Daiquiri was born in Cuba at the turn of the 20th century, named after a small village near Santiago de Cuba. Legend has it that American engineer Jennings Cox invented the drink in 1898 while working in the area. Faced with a shortage of gin, Cox mixed local rum with sugar and lime juice to create a refreshing libation for his guests. The drink quickly gained fame, especially after being introduced to Havana’s El Floridita bar, a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway. Today, the Daiquiri remains a symbol of tropical relaxation and sophisticated simplicity.
A thin lime wheel or a lime twist—adds aroma and visual appeal, hinting at the cocktail’s citrusy freshness.
