The origins of the Margarita are as lively as the drink itself, with stories tracing back to 1930s Mexico. Some say it was invented for a showgirl named Marjorie King who was allergic to all spirits except tequila, while others credit Dallas socialite Margarita Sames for mixing it up at a party in Acapulco in 1948. Regardless of its exact beginnings, the Margarita quickly became a symbol of relaxation, fun, and good times, making its way from Mexican cantinas to cocktail menus worldwide.
A lime wedge perched on the salted rim adds a pop of color, a fresh aroma, and an extra zing if squeezed into the drink.
